White House Violates Wishes Of Navy SEALS’ Families

What a disgraceful piece of crap:

Obama exploited the death of Navy Seals to help his reelection campaign, after the families of Navy Seals specifically asked him not to have media coverage present.

19 of the 30 families of the deceased Navy Seals asked the White House to have NO photos/media of any kind at the ceremony. However, a White House photographer took a picture of Obama saluting what is probably the coffins of the deceased Navy Seals.

The photo was then published on the official White House website and received a wide distribution to numerous media outlets.

The AP reported:

A White House photographer was allowed to take and widely distribute a photo from the ceremony Tuesday for the return of the remains of 30 American troops killed in a weekend helicopter crash in Afghanistan despite the Pentagon’s claim that any public depiction of the scene would violate the wishes of bereaved families.

News media coverage of the ceremony had been banned by the Pentagon over the objections of several news organizations.

Pentagon officials had said that because 19 of 30 of the American families of the dead had objected to media coverage of the remains coming off a plane at Dover Air Force Base, no images could be taken. In addition, the Pentagon rejected media requests to take photos that showed officials at the ceremony but did not depict caskets.

President Barack Obama attended the ceremony, called a “dignified transfer,” for those killed in the worst single loss of the nearly 10-year war. An official White House photo of a saluting Obama was distributed to news media and published widely. It also was posted on the White House website as the “Photo of the Day.”It showed Obama and other officials in silhouette and did not depict caskets.

Doug Wilson, head of public affairs at the Pentagon, said the department did not know the White House photographer was present and had no idea a photo of the event was being released until it became public. He said the photographers who routinely travel with the defense secretary and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff were not allowed to go to the event, and no official Pentagon photos were taken or released.

  1. FIRST: HE IS NOT MILITARY SO HE SHOULD HAVE HIS HAND OVER HIS HEART. SECOND: THAT IS ONE VERY POOR QUALITY SALUTE HE IS ATTEMPTING. THIRD: HE DISRESPECTED THE FAMILIES OF THOSE KIA BY HAVING ANY PHOTO OPS AT ALL. THEY SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO HAVE NONE AND HE SHOULD HAVE RESPECTED THEIR WISHES. HE IS A DISGRACE TO THE OFFICE AND THE MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN WHO DO THEIR JOBS WITH COURAGE AND CHARACTER. MORE THAN I CAN SAY FOR HIM.

  2. If any of the other reasons to dump this “president” in 2012 aren’t enough, this one should do it; my heart goes out to those family members… this is just adding insult to injury…

  3. Micheal Lewis says:

Actually he is mililtary..Next time a General or any member of the military greets him watch them salute first. He calls all the shots with the military there for he’s the highest ranking person. And its not a shitty salute, the picture was taken as he was raising his arm.

NO HE IS NOT MILITARY !  He is the Commander in Chief, a civilian position !
He disrespected the families of the Seals by having a photo taken and published.
Hopefully he will be gone after one term !!  We deserve more from our President !

    • Majorie says:

He never served in the Military….   But yeah, unfortunately this photo op hungry person is commander in chief which is a CIVILIAN POSITION!    The surviving families of these Seals DESERVED BETTER !!!!

How totally disrespectful!!!   No other word for these actions.    Anything to get the Photo op!
I think if I were a family member I WOULD FEEL VIOLATED!

I do wish someone would show the President how to salute properly.

  6. Robert says:

The forehead salute has traditionally been reserved for those who have served in our military in one form or another.  The heart salute has always been used by the civilian community.  However, the President is the exception, based on the fact he is the CinC for the military.  Unfortunately, the current Community Organizer in Chief has never learned the proper salute in either form.  He has no qualms about using anything to make himself look better while avoiding responsibility for his actions or recommendations.  All we can do is ensure we vote properly in 2012 for a President who will not embarrass this country any further, who respects our military, and actually has a plan instead of just theories that don’t work in anything but a fantasy.

First, all should understand the origins of the military salute. It can be found at: http://www.qmmuseum.lee.army.mil/history/vignettes/respect1.html.
Secondly, one must also understand that it has only been in the last 5-10 years that not only those in uniform could render a proper military salute, but those who have distinguished themselves by putting themselves in harms way and worn the uniform of one of our armed forces, have been allowed to render a dignified and proper military salute after serving honorably in the UNITED STATES MILITARY SERVICE, been though they had been honorably discharged.
That said, the office of the current CinC is due ALL honors which are LEGALLY bestowed upon that position. It is not the person, it is the dignity and honor that comes with the office.
HOWEVER……the person who currently sits in that office as our CinC has NEVER worn the uniform of ANY military organization and therefor should never render a hand salute, but as with all others who have not worn the uniform of any of our armed services, should simply place his hand over his heart.
The salute notwithstanding, his presence at Dover, in my opinion showed complete and total disrespect for the families of our fallen comrades in arms.
Let me be clear when I say “I MEAN NO DISRESPECT FOR THE OFFICE OF THE CinC, HOWEVER ALONG WITH TAKING THE OATH OF OFFICE COMES THE RESPONSIBILITY OF KNOWING HOW AND WHAT HONORS TO RENDER AS WELL AS THOSE THAT ARE APPROPRIATELY EXPECTED WHEN ACCEPTING THE RESPONSIBILITIES THAT COME WITH THE OFFICE”.
My condolences to the families of our fallen brothers.
Lastly, just out of curiosity, how did Mr. Lewis come to the conclusion that the arm was in motion (either up or down) from a “STILL” photo????????

  8. Tom says:

Yes, he has never been in the military and he doesn’t have a clue as to what the salute is meant for. These young men that were killed deserved the respect given by military men and women world wide. This display by Obama is just another flaunt of the disrespect that he has for the military and especially since he bashed the Seals, then tried to praise them when they got Bin Laden.

  9. Tina says:

There is such a total lack of respect for our PRESIDENT by so many people. Keep in mind, though, the fact that he won the election FAIRLY – by popular vote!!!

  10. Kathy says:

Maybe “Michael Lewis” & “Tina” should get together. They think alike! First of all Tina – he did not win the election “fairly” by popular vote. Don’t you recall an organization called ACORN – which he fully backs – playing a key role in the election? Second – You can tell Michael has not nor would not serve in the U.S. Military. It should not be about the “highest rank”, but the respect of the position and know better than to disrespect the fallen soldiers and their families. I am the mother of a soldier doing his second tour in Afghanistan. My heart goes out to all the women whose beloved son, husband, finance, brother or uncle – who will not be stepping off the plane – but carried off. They are left with little – no closure – and for Obama to show up with a photographer, and don’t kid yourself, he knew he was there, is more than disgraceful and undignified! The families of Military men and women and the rest of the country DESERVE more from our President!

  11. Fairfis says:

So many people talking about honor here but none of them has a shred of proper manner. Even if you totally dislike the man, respect the position as those dead man did, which served under this man and would never have engaged in such disgusting behavior. What do you think would a Navy Seal do, if he would hear someone course like you do about his Commander? Yeah… and you deserve it.

  12. Charlene says:

What amazes me is that he never saluted or put his hand over his heart in respect for the flag or returns a salute from a military member UNLESS there is a camera to preserve the event and of course publish it in a paper or news program or the white house website.
BTW- Most of his “salutes” look more like he’s shooing a fly away from his forehead.
