Ann Coulter, prominent Conservative columnist, threw her support behind Chris Christie for the 2012 Presidential election a few months ago, but in doing so, received criticism from Conservative talk show host Mark Levin and many others. I agreed with Mark Levin, saying she was wrong about Palin and so forth. However, Coulter continues to support Christie, yet she isn’t looking at his record. So here’s my beef with him, regarding a Presidential run. (He isn’t running though)
First, Christie supports strict and aggressive enforcement of the state’s current gun laws. He strongly supported the assault weapons ban enacted during the Clinton administration. In a campaign flyer circulated during his 1995 campaign, he attacked his opponents support for repealing the ban:
![]()
As his gubernatorial campaign launched in June 2009, Michael Symons of the Asbury Park Press reported that:
Chris Christie supports the assault weapons ban and all current gun laws. He opposes attempts to permit conceal and carry laws in New Jersey – hardly the NRA position.
He even admitted to Sean Hannity that he supports strict gun control. That is the complete opposite of a Conservative view point. We have a Constitutional right to bear arms. Why doesn’t he defend the second amendment? Why did he work towards strict gun laws? Does Ann Coulter know this?
Second, Chris Christie is weak on illegal immigration. He said this in 2008:
“Being in this country without proper documentation is not a crime,” Christie told more than 60 residents and town officials. “The whole phrase of ‘illegal immigrant’ connotes that the person, by just being here, is committing a crime.”
“Don’t let people make you believe that that’s a crime that the U.S. Attorney’s Office should be doing something about,” he added of entering the country illegally. “It is not.”
He tried clarifying his statement, and correspondent Bill Tucker said on CNN said:
Now it’s perhaps worth noting that Christie doesn’t have a strong record on prosecuting immigration violations. From 2002 through 2007, we could only find 13 cases of immigration cases that were prosecuted.
We called Christie’s office; they would not help us with a better count. They told us they have got 150 lawyers; they don’t have the time to track all of this. So we went through their press releases and got 13. Compare that to the U.S. attorney in Kansas who was much more helpful. That office provided us with a list of their immigration case load in that same time period and Lou, 597 cases in Kansas from 2002 to 2007.
Apparently, Christie stated at that same Church meeting in 2008, that certain leaders around the state that have demagogued on this issue are “ill-informed.” This was seen as a swipe to Conservative Democratic Mayor Donald Cresitello of Morristown. Who pushed hard in 2007 for his municipality to be granted 287(g) status that would permit local cops to be deputized as federal immigration officers with the power to apprehend and turn over to ICE agents any undocumented immigrants they discovered.
Though as of 2010, Christie’s position is:
On the hot-button topic of immigration reform, he said he has long declined to “demagogue” the issue as a former U.S. Attorney, because “I come from law enforcement and it’s not an easy issue.”
But he did intimate that he thinks stringent state-by-state laws — such as in Arizona — are the wrong approach, and added, “I think President Obama doesn’t do this at his own risk because it’s affecting the economy in the country…to me, I think the president’s really gotta show the leadership on this.”
“This is a federal problem, it’s gotta have a federal fix,” he said. “I’m not really comfortable with state law enforcement having a big role.”
He said that without border security, enforcement of existing laws and a “clear” path to legalization for immigrants, there would never be a fix.
Politico went on to add:
“What I support is making sure that the federal government [plays] each and every one of its roles: Securing the border, enforcing immigration laws, and having an orderly process — whatever that process is — for people to gain citizenship.”
He added: “It’s a very easy issue to demagogue and I’m just not going to participate in that.”
Christie said more resources — specifically, “money” — were needed to support federal law enforcement and border security, along with “having a clear understandable law that people can follow.”
“Until you have both of those…you’re not going to fix the problem,” he said.
Christie also said he thinks state and local law enforcement don’t have appropriate training to enforce immigration laws, and that it can distract from their overriding goal of keeping the public safe.
Governor Christie also opposes Arizona’s effort (SB1070) to do what the federal government is supposed to be doing – protecting itself from a the entering of illegal immigrants from the borders of Mexico. Christie sounds like a RINO. He’s similar to my stupid Senator, John McCain of Arizona.
Finally, Mark Levin points out that Christie’s record is very dim. Levin says:
“Whenever I raise questions about Christie I usually get a few people saying he’s too busy being governor to address all these issues.” Chris Christie isn’t that known. He refuses to address issues that expose his weaknesses to conservatives. I do not want to support someone for the office of the Presidency with a little known record. Which is honestly why I think he isn’t running for President. However, it still surprises me that Ann Coulter backs him with little known. What does she know about him? Is she some kind of insider? Of course Christie is solid in his YouTube battles with teachers and his efforts to try and address NJ’s budget problems, the outcome of which have yet to be determined. But the federal government is a vast enterprise that requires a solid conservative at the helm, especially now.
Honestly, Ann Coulter needs to stop cheerleading for him and start paying attention to a real Conservative candidate, such as Sarah Palin, Herman Cain, or possibly Mike Huckabee. He isn’t running Ann, get over it.

Gun control is a touchstone issue for me. If Christie can’t get the Second Amendment right, why bother voting for him?
Firstly, Christie backed Mike Castle, the same Mike Castle (RINO, Delaware), who was ready set to deliver a yes vote on Cap & Trade legislation had the socialists retained the congress! If this is Ann Coulter being conservative…flip-flopping…saying one thing, but meaning another, I think she needs to take her own advice and reconsider “how to talk to a conservative, if you must”. Anyways, libertarians must pleased to know their time has come as repukes eat their own. At the end of the day, Coulter is still hot!!!
Christie fits in comfortably with Karl Rove & other old, jowly, undead establishment Republicans. Fatty Arbuckle wannabees, every one of them.
Remenber Chris Christie and New Jersey are BROKE….
And are we all pretty comfortable that the Second Amendment gives us the right to own fully automatic assault rifles with clips larger than 24 rounds? The 2nd Amendment says, “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the protection of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” It doesn’t say, the right of the people to keep and bear any weapon known to man shall not be infringed. Presumably, even the most aggressive among us don’t think that a private citizen should have the right to own a tank or a cruise missile.
Plus, there is little reason for a well-regulated militia to carry concealed weapons under their shirts.
My point is believing in the Second Amendment doesn’t preclude someone (even a Republican someone) from supporting a ban on M-16s or opposing concealed weapon permits.
interesting, all polls show Christie would actually beat Obama
Umm, no they don`t.  Last poll I saw shows Obama beating all possible GOP candidates.ÂÂ
Brilliance, check the date of my post… oh and btw this dates back to 3/2011: Let’s start with the evidence in Christie’s favor. Last month, Zogby Interactive released a poll
that showed the governor leading a hypothetical field of Republican
hopefuls by a solid 10 percentage points; the silver medalist, Mitt
Romney, scored a paltry 17 percent to Christie’s commanding 27 percent.
Even more impressive, Christie was the only Republican who bested Obama
among all respondents (43 percent to 40 percent), with much of his
strength coming from independents, who preferred the New Jerseyan by a
wide, 13-point margin (42 percent to 29 percent).
w/ christie determined to finish his term, obama will obliterate any conservative contenders (those who are officially running to date and those who are making money playing games talking about running and continuing to make conservatives look like a bunch of idiots (hint: her name is quite similar to your username on this forum)
Wanna vote for a hard-core social conservative at a time when independent and swing voters are focusing on economic issues — Vote for Rick Santorum (do a search on him if you’re not sure who he is).
The second is not about hunting. Or crime. It is about armed revolt. Overthrow. Attacking the government.
The founders had just gotten over a internal war by, initially, a military armed populace. Which, like those crazy Swiss, I support.
The militia had cannon. The Battles of Lexington and Concord was based on the British capturing a militia cannon.
So, what is your point? As far as I can determine ownership of a black powder cannon circa 1775 is probably legal. I am not a gun scholar though I’m sure I can still field strip an M1 or M-4 or M1911 pistol.hough I’m sure I can still field strip an M1 or M-4 or M1911 pistol.
Usually, 99% of the time, I agree with everything Ann says/writes…. in fact, I would love to meet a woman just like her.  But I’ve disagreed with Ann on two things…. 1) This support of Christie without examining his record and 2) the birth certificate/eligibiilty issue. ÂÂ
I love how Christie handles the union morons and whiny teachers who are overpaid and overbenefited (remember, do the math, they only work about half as many days/hours as the average non-teachers), and he should be applauded for the way he’s handled himself and the unions/teachers.  But what about other issues?
Next, I don’t understand why Ann is so naive and has buried her beautiful head in the sand about Obama’s elibigility.  Ann is a constitutional lawyer.  Obama is ineligible on multiple accounts… 1) he probably wasn’t born here, there’s no real proof of it, the latest BC was forgery/fraud  2) his mom was too young to confer citizenship to him 3) his dad was dual citizen of two other countries, 4) he was adopted and “registered” as a muslim and citizen of another country while attending elementary school 5) he qualified for receiving aid for being a foreign student in college and 6) he is using a fake social security number.
The guy is a fraud and, mark my words, he’s going to do more harm to the jews and to the world than Hitler.  I’m not jewish, but I know the significance of the horrible policies he’s directing/participating in.  They’re bad for Israel and ultimately bad for U.S.  He’s betrayed a great ally in Israel.  He’s a bad SOB who belongs in prison.  Osama “only” destroyed the lives of 3,000 people.  Obama will destroy the lives of millions.  Mark my words.  If you don’t believe it, you’re naive.
Instead of focusing on issues that do nothing to benefit the country as a whole, like whether President Obama was born in the United States, proof, his mothers citizenship ability and so on, how about we focus on our debt, job creation and foreign policy. If Republicans would stop appearing as bigots that are screaming there is no way Obama is an American, then maybe, the 2012 election will be different. For the past 3 years, Republicans have baggered President Obama on his citizenship more than his policy issues, its become a racist bigoted obsession of the Republican party, as if a discovery that you think you have made will change that he was elected in 2008. Dont you think if someone else with more capabilities discovered where he was born then they would ensure to cover it up. Screaming or rather typing that Obama is an illegal immigrant wont decrease unemployment, nor decrease the debt, so hopefully this platform that so many NAIVE Republicans have chosen to take on is irrelevant, Its distracting and paints a bad picture. Because of Obama’s “exoticness” in the opinion of so many non-colored Americans, he cant be from America. I hope we will not forget that our ancestors too were immigrants, we all came from somewhere else and no matter how guns you own, church services you attend, American flags you’ll buy, times you vote Republican, you will always be a 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or so on generation American. Your family immigrated over here too and assimilated into what is today American culture. You are not above anyone that does not look like you. Progressivenss is what the Republican party needs and acceptance.
Got it! Thanks a lot again for hlpeing me out!

Ontheissues.org has virtually no information on Christie. I like him personally, but it’s like Obama with the lack of experience. However, unlike Obama, Christie hasn’t written a book on his views. From what I have heard, he’s soft on 2nd Amendment, and endorses cap and trade. That puts me way off. I’ll stick with Ron Paul or Herman Cain, thanks.
